Australia was never famous for its metal tradition, except some outstanding bands like AC/DC. Nevertheless, some progress has been done through the years and some interesting bands popped out, like Wolfmother (they won the Grammy Award; the first for an Australian band in 25 years), Virgin Black, Mortification, Destroyer 666 etc.
RAVEN BLACK NIGHT is a new band, formed in 1999 in Adelaide. Their style is more along the lines of 80’s underground metal, inspired by the characteristic metal bands of that era. Till now, they have released three demos and one full length album back in 2004. “Lips Of Desire” is their new Demo which concludes only the homonymous track. Of course, one song is not representative of the band’s capabilities, so I’d expect something more to come out with a general opinion about RAVEN BLACK NIGHT. Now, what about this song, I’d say that it has the romance and the sensitivity of those times, while its production (on purpose or not) travels you back in a Whitesnake’s era. Of course I cannot compare RAVEN BLACK NIGHT with those legends of heavy metal music but that’s how I felt after listening to this baland called “Lips Of Desire”. Nice melodies, pure 80’s solos and vocals and atmosphere in general.
RAVEN BLACK NIGHT should not fear and keep on composing such enjoyable songs like “Lips Of Desire”.
